CHILDREN'S POET LAUREATE 2009-10

The Welsh-language Children's Poet Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) for 2009–2010 was wasTwm Morys, a well known poet, singer, broadcaster and columnist. Born in Oxford he was raised in Llanystumdwy, where he now lives with his wife and children. He won the chair at the National Eisteddfod in Maldwyn in 2003. He’s a member of the Talwrn team y Tywysogion, and he sings with the group Bob Delyn a’r Ebillion. His publications include Ofn Fy Het (Barddas, 1995), Triawd Machynlleth (with Jan Morris; Viking, 1994), Eldorado (with Iwan Llwyd; Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, 1999), 2 (Barddas, 2002).
Twm Morys says: "I’ve been visiting schools for years to talk about poetry and to write poetry with the children.
I soon realized that the most important work that we do is give children confidence. The confidence to express themselves, and the confidence to belong. We make language a ball, and by playing with that ball, the children (sometimes without realizing it) learn vocabulary and grammar, local history, Welsh history and the ways of the world!"
