TEAMS COMPETE FOR THE DR DEWI DAVIES TROPHIES

The National Rounds of the Childrens Books Competition
for primary schools, organised by the Welsh Books Council,
were held at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre recently.
33 teams from all parts of Wales took part in the final
round for pupils in Years 3/4 and Years 5/6.
Over three hundred pupils, teachers and parents enjoyed
a full day of book-related activities. The teams
discussed stories by the authors Mair Wynn Hughes and
Gwyn Morgan, written specially for the competitions.
Dramatic presentations of different books were also
performed, and during the day T. Llew Jones, the well-known
author, related stories that inspired him to write some
of his novels and he also signed copies of his books.

The prizes are sponsored by Dr Dewi Davies, a native
of Rhos, near Llandysul, Carmarthenshire.
We had a most wonderful day with the pupils,
said Menna Lloyd Williams, Head of the Childrens
Books Department at the Books Council, and we
can only thank the teachers and parents for their support
and warmly congratulate the winners.
