BUDDING POETS GET CREATIVE IN A TEEPEE! (29 August 2003)

Teepees of the type used by the Sioux tribe have become the latest location to inspire young Welsh poets!

Pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Brynsierfel, Llwynhendy, Llanelli, had the opportunity recently of being part of a poetry workshop with Menna Elfyn in the teepees located at Hendre farm, Blaenannerch.  The session had been arranged as a reward for the school’s support for the Sbondonics Book Club.

Sbondonics is the Welsh-language Book Club for 7–11 year-olds that is organised by the Welsh Books Council.  32,000 of the Club’s colourful sales leaflets are distributed each term to children in all parts of  Wales.  In 2002–2003, over 23,000 books were sold through the children’s Welsh-language  Book Clubs, bringing the total value of orders to over £100,000 for the first time ever.

‘It was very apt that we should hold the workshop at Hendre, as it is the home of Chaired Bard Dic Jones,’ said Delyth Humphreys, Children’s Book Club Officer with the Welsh Books Council. ‘We’re very grateful to Tipi West for providing us with such a wonderful location!’
